Original Poem 08
Gravity
Pale and round
Rocking back
Alone in a blanket of stars
He lay
Hands dangling either side of him
Trailing into the space below
Sifting through a misty velvet curtain of light and gases
Plucking a comet here and there.
Then
Out of the vast black vacuum
He spies a sight
Another like himself
Round.
She's rocky and all edges
Spunky and full of life
He finds himself pulled towards her
Bound to her
In reverent awe
Of her beauty which glows like no other.
But, like everything else in the universe
She's devout to constant motion
So she makes her leave.
He begs her to stay
Pawing at the dust
She leaves behind her path
And simply
Her sweet rasp replies,
Follow.

Original Poem 7
Clock
A clockwise chase of
Two hands trailing,
Desperate to surpass the other.
Racing through sixty still onlookers
On a perfect circle track,
They speed past the twelfth
That marks the end.
That marks the end.
No cheers are made
Or a winner declared,
It's just another minute
Gone by unnoticed.

Original Poem 6
Sheryl Haler, Rising Son, 2013, cloth/wood sculpture, 72"x40"x60"
Patchwork Cat
A circus of color
On patchwork skin
A mane of tangled webbing
Red and green fibers
Mismatched
Disorderly
Barely standing
Red glass claws
Scraping for an anchor
